February 8, 1936 - February 6, 2023
In loving memory ~
In the early morning hours of February, 6th Evaldo left his earthly family to be with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Evaldo was born at his parents' family home in Burnaby on February 8th, 1936. He was the third son of Virginia and Domenico Fillipponi. Evaldo was pre-deceased by his father, Domenico, his mother, Virginia and his two elder brothers, John and Bob.
Evaldo spent his childhood growing up in Burnaby and after school would help out in the corner store that his parents owned or would be expected to work in the large garden. At the age of 19, Evaldo accepted Christ as his Lord and Saviour. In 1955 Evaldo attended LIFE Bible College where he met his future wife Doreen Lapp. After graduating from Bible College Doreen and Evaldo married in Courtenay on February 14, 1959.
Evaldo and Doreen's first church was in Haney which is where Christina was born in 1960. They then moved to the Rupert Foursquare Church in '61 and Mark was born. From there the family moved to Powell River and Matt was born in 1962. Marie also was born in Powell River in 1964. Mom and Dad finally settled in Black Creek and Jinny was born in 1972. In the early 1970s, Evaldo completed his Mechanical certification and thereafter spent many years wrenching on everyone's vehicles. Evaldo was passionate about sharing his love for the Lord and until his retirement spent the majority of his life as a mechanic, and pastor. One of the last jobs Dad took on was starting the Young at Heart group at the Foursquare church.
Mom and Dad enjoyed many trips as Snow Birds down to Palm Springs and Arizona in the winter months. In the summer months, they enjoyed spending time in their motor home with family and close friends in the Geritol Heights area at Kitty Coleman. Dad especially loved watching the eagles and squirrels.
Evaldo spent the last couple of years of his life being well cared for as a resident at Glacier View Lodge.
Left to mourn him are his wife of 64 years, Doreen; daughter Christina (Gord); son, Mark (Dawn); son, Matthew (Lynn); daughter, Marie (Ian); and daughter, Ginny (Tim). He also leaves behind 13 grandchildren, Gord, Kyle, Tasha, Jessie, Nick, Tylor, Gina, Nico, Jakob, Amy, Karlee, Amanda and Taryn. He also leaves behind 14 great-children and many nieces and nephews.
Donations in Evaldo's name may be made to the legacy of lights at Glacier View Lodge.
A celebration of life will be held at Northgate Foursquare Church on February 25th, 2023 at 1:30 pm.
