January 16, 1951 ~ April 7, 2015

When a life is well lived, it leaves a mark, and plants a seed that grows and thrives long after. France lived such a life, beautiful and full. This part of her journey ended on April 7, 2015 after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

France was born January 16, 1951 to Joseph and Madeleine Galletta in Montreal, Quebec. She moved to Ottawa when she was 17 to live with her sister Danielle. In 1977 she moved to Victoria, BC, where she met her husband Ed Hancock in September of 1978, and married him less than 3 months later.

She is predeceased by her parents, her in laws Edwin “Red” and Margaret “Peggy” Hancock, her sister Danielle, and her brother Carl.

She is survived by her husband, her son Jonathon (Crystal), daughter Natalie, sister Michelle, brother Mario, brothers in-law Tony and Gerrit, her best friends Janet and Marvin, her nieces that were like her sisters Dawn (Joe), Ann (Doug), Theresa (Phil), and Bridget, 13 nieces and nephews, countless great nieces and nephews, and a grandbaby on the way.

Mom tended her family like she did her garden, with care, patience and love. She loved to laugh and smile. Always caring for everyone, she loved to cook and bake.

To her Walmart family, she was eternally grateful for all the support and love over the past 11 years.

France touched many people with her selflessness, her humour, and her ever present glowing smile. She is incredibly well loved, and her life will be carried on in our hearts forever.

A celebration of France’s life will be held in her backyard on Saturday, May 16th from 2-7pm at 1467 Burgess Rd Courtenay. Donations in her name can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
