July 5, 1940 - March 17, 2021
On March 17, 2021 at 80 years old, Fred passed away peacefully at his home. He was born in Kimberly, BC on July 05, 1940.
Fred is survived by his daughters Barbara, Brenda (Bryan) and Tanya (Darren); grandchildren Ben, Roux and Sailus; siblings Diane Bailey (Don) of St Albert, Alta, Gail Arsenault of Victoria, BC and Bill Miller (Deb) of Cumberland, BC; brother-in-law Louis Robinson of Campbell River, BC; and many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his wife Carolea Arbuckle; parents Doris Miller and Johnny Arbuckle.
Growing up in the rugged Rockies' mining town of Fernie, BC taught him the skills that carried him throughout his life. He thrived in the quiet of the wilderness where he became a skilled hunter, fisherman and excelled at downhill skiing.
Fred enlisted in the Air Force on his 17th birthday as a minor where he became a career soldier. He joined an emerging trade that saw postings to new bases every year or so and returned to CFB Comox to retire.
Fred's most memorable posting was to CFB Lahr, Germany where he enjoyed all that Europe had to offer.
In his retired years, Fred continued to pursue his life passions of hunting, fishing, photography and weekly poker games at the Courtenay Seniors Centre.
At Fred's request there will be no funeral and his ashes will be scattered in the Rocky Mountains of Southern BC.
An opportunity for family and friends to gather will be organized at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined.
