Mr. Fred Johnstone born Ashington, Northlumberland, England on November 29, 1917. Died in Comox December 4, 2006, at 89. He is predeceased by his father Thomas and his mother Hannah Johnstone, wife Helen in April 2001; brothers: Tommy (Mansville, AB) and Elford (infancy England); sisters: Jane Johnstone (England) and Ethel Wild (England).

He is survived by brothers: Bill (Dorothy) of Courtenay and Ken (Ermma) of Parksville. He is survived by 2 daughters: Patricia (Richard) Peasant of Cornwall, ON and Donna (Mervin) Stoll of Lemberg, SK; 5 grandchildren: Nicole Wittman, Steven (Sylvie) Wittma, of Ontario, Shaughn (Belina) Wittman of Wainwright, AB, Stacey Lee (Gary) Perkins, Raymond, WA, T Shayne (Lorie) Stoll, Balcarres, SK.; 7 great-grandchildren: Cassandra Weiseberger Stoll, Sidney, Stephaine, Michael Wittman and Jessica Wittman, Jacob and Lilly Stoll.

Fred married Helen Joyce Graves of Lawrencetown, NS on April 24, 1944. Dad’s war record: Royal Canadian Navy 1942-1946, Royal Canadian Air Force 1954 - 1982. He worked for the BC Dept. of Ferries and Highway, Comox Queen 1962 - 1982 until retirement.

Dad enjoyed gardening and really liked feeding the birds and watching them. He also enjoyed being on his computer with his brother Bill and numerous friends. The computer he learned at the age of 83.

Music was something he could spend hours listening to, anything from classical to western to Celtic with bagpipes a favourite. He would also play music at times for the people of Casa Loma.

Dad was a member of the Comox Legion Branch 160.

Dad resided in Casa Loma from the fall of 2001 until his death.

The family of Mr. Fred Johnstone would like to thank the nurses and staff of St. Joseph’s Hospital 3rd Floor and Dr. Helmer for their compassion and care they gave our dad.
