Frieda Eugene Sturdy
February 21, 1919 ~ January 6, 2011
Our dear Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and friend passed away in Victoria, B.C. 3 years after suffering a devastating stroke, which had left her with multiple physical disabilities. She taught us to the end with her characteristic grace, dignity and class. Her love of her Lord was an inspiration to us all. Initially married to Rev. Arnold Richard Wilke in 1939, she excelled in her role as pastor’s wife on the prairies and in Vancouver until Arnold’s death in 1960. With Arnie she had five children – fred, Bud, Anne, Ken and Sandra. With her second marriage to Kenneth Roy Sturdy in 1962, who predeceased her in 2007, Frieda mothered ken’s four children by a previous marriage – Daryl, Moraine, John and Sherry. They lived in Port Alice and Tahsis during Ken’s working life and they then retired to Courtenay where Ken and Frieda remained active in church and community life. Through her and Ken’s children there are 16 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren, each whom she remembered by name. Each of them will miss her loving care and daily prayers.
A Celebration of Mom’s life will be held at St. George’s United Church, Courtenay on Saturday, January 29th, 2011 at 1:30 pm.
