Bourque, Gary Warren

Jan 10, 1944 - Jan 13, 2007

At peace at last, Gary will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Ginette; children: Christine (Dan), Rob (Sherry), Marie (Steve), Brad, and Patrick (Michelle); grandchildren: Aaron, Tyler, and Elizabeth; and nephews Adam and Ryan. Born in Lethbridge, AB, Gary’s family moved to the Comox Valley where he and Ginette met and married in 1966. Gary’s careers included that of a pilot flying float planes along the West Coast, business operator of Good’s Groceteria, School Board Trustee, and lastly a Teacher Assistant working with children with special needs for 10 years in our school district until 2000. Due to the effects of early dementia, Gary and Ginette moved to Saanichton, almost three years ago, to live with their daughter Marie. Shortly thereafter Gary was hospitalized until his death. Gary lived a very caring life. He was known for his many ‘random acts of kindness’ and generosity. Many friends, school district colleagues and families with children with special needs are grieving the loss of Gary in their lives. Gary was predeceased by his father, Joseph, mother, Ruth, and brother, Jim.

All friends of Gary are welcome to attend a funeral mass to be held at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Sidney, BC, on Friday, January 19th at 1:00pm. Flowers gratefully declined. Instead donations in Gary’s name can be made to L’Arche Comox Valley at 491B - 4th Street, Courtenay, V9N 1G9. Cards can be sent to 1883 Mount Newton Crossroads, Saanichton, BC, V8M 1L1.
