MARTENS

Gerhard (George)

March 12th 1929 – March 19th 2009

George was born in Chinook, Alberta on March 12th, 1929, to Rev. William and Sarah Martens. His early years were spent growing up on the farm in various Alberta towns. His family then moved to Greendale B.C. where he began his working career. In the early 1950’s George spread his wings and moved east to the Niagara region of Ontario, and he began his life – long career (41 years) as a car salesman. It was also here that he met Elizabeth (Bette) Dick whom he married in 1953, and, together they raised their 2 daughters. In 1980 they moved to Campbell River B.C. where he continued selling cars for “G.M.” at the Marc Hylands dealership. “Striker”, (as his colleges at the shop called him), retired in 1994 and spent the next 15 years being active with his church family, his friends from the bowling circle, his family and his nature gardens.

George died suddenly Thursday March 19th of a heart attack. God was gracious to spare him any pain and we believe he is now resting in peace. A funeral service will be held at the Black Creek Mennonite Church, Enns Rd., Black Creek, on Friday March 27th, 1:30 p.m. Reception and a time of sharing will follow. Donations to the Palliative care unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Comox,

can be made in lieu of flowers. A special thank you to Dr. Engman and the nursing staff in the ICU unit of St. Joe’s, and to Gordon Carter for all his kindness.
