October 4, 1924 - June 28, 2021
Sadly, Gerry King passed away on June 28, 2021. He was predeceased by, Marion, his wife of 30 years. Born in Vancouver on October 4, 1924, Gerry grew up in Powell River. At age 18, he voluntarily joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and received his pilot wings in August of 1944. While he missed any action in WWII, he was part of the Canadian Air Division for NATO.
As a pilot and an instructor, Gerry's postings took him all over the world, from Gimli, MB to France and Germany. In 1972 he returned to Ottawa and retired from the RCAF as a Major. During his career, Gerry flew the Tiger Moth, Harvard, Vampire, F-86 Sabre and, his favourite, the CF-104.
Later in 1972, he took a position as a Civil Aviation Inspector with the Department of Transport until his final retirement in 1992. It was then that Marion and Gerry moved to Comox.
Gerry's family would like to extend their appreciation to Gerry's Home Support Worker, Janet and to all of the wonderful staff at Morgan Place Care Facility in South Surrey.
Gerry has earned his heavenly wings.
