Gloria Lily Thatcher left us suddenly on April 4, 2008.
She was born on August 26, 1922, soon after her family (George, Lily, George, Walter and Sylvia Edwards) moved to the Comox Valley 86 years ago.
The Comox Valley and her family were her life. Her breadth of knowledge about the people and families here was astounding. She remembered everyone’s name and connection and loved them all.
Gloria is survived by her partner and loving husband of 62 years, Fred. She was very proud of his service to his country in World War II. They met on a blind date shortly before the war ended and they were married six months later.
She was our mother, grandma, surrogate grandma, beloved auntie and friend. Her daughter, Margot, son-in-law, Bob and their daughters, Alicia and Tara will sorrowly miss her as well as many nieces, nephews and their families.
We love you Mom, we’ll miss your warmth, your passion and your energy. Rest peacefully.
A Celebration of Gloria’s Life will be held at Piercy’s Funeral Home, 440 England Avenue, Courtenay on Friday, April 18, 2008 at 1:00 pm.
A donation in Gloria’s memory may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
