GILLIS - Glyn A.

October 19, 1934 ~ December 23, 2007

It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Glyn Gillis, after a short battle with cancer.

Glyn was born in Springhill, Nova Scotia October 19, 1934. He is predeceased by his daughter Patti, who left us December 9, 2004. Left to miss him are his loving wife Marion, daughter Kim (Byron), son Rick (Lisa), youngest daughter Karen, grandchildren: Misty (Arnim), Heather and Hayley. Great-grandchildren Dylan & Sadie, stepchildren: Steve, Michelle (Claudia) and his best buddy Bernie.

At a young age, having avoided working in the coal mines of Springhill, Glyn joined the Armed Forces to become a Master Sgt. His career took him to many places including Halifax, Ottawa and Sardinia, Italy and finally to his true home Comox Valley. During these years he played a lot of sports including squash, volleyball, curling, baseball and scuba diving. Also as lifeguard he received a medal for saving a woman’s life.

Known by many as “Golden Throat” Glyn entertained with his band the “Alleycats” for 30 years. As well as being an avid fisherman and hunter, Glyn lived for playing guitar around the campfires of Airforce Beach and Brewster Lake for his family and friends.

Our precious heroe

Sparkling eyes, cheeky grin

With the quiet nature

Has left us now, to go Fishin’

In our memories forever

A Celebration of Glyn’s life will be held sometime in the New Year. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Cancer Society or Hospice Society.
