Gwen passed away peacefully at The Views at St. Joseph's in Comox, B.C.
Gwen was born and raised in Vancouver, where she spent as much time as possible with horses and riding her bike.
She worked briefly for the income tax department before marrying David McIntosh in 1951. After their marriage, she occasionally cooked at sea for him and the crews of various Vancouver Tug towboats.
he spent most of her life as a fulltime wife and mother, and had something of a wanderlust, no sooner moving into a new house than starting to look for the next one. She and Dave had many happy times, camping when the family was younger and then travelling all over the world.
In 2002 they moved to the Comox Valley. Gwen also had a life-long love of owls, cats and anything made of leopard print fabric.
There were challenges in Gwen's life. She was a two-time breast cancer survivor, had knee replacement surgery twice and struggled with dementia in her final years, among many lesser ailments. She bore it all with quiet dignity.
Gwen was predeceased by her husband, Captain David Melville McIntosh, and parents Henry Ross Harvey and Laura Harvey (nee Matthews), and is survived by her sons, David Brian McIntosh (Darlene) and Harvey Brent McIntosh (Terri), four grandchildren Melissa - Missy - McIntosh (BJ Grenda), Stephanie Bruzzone (Nicholas), Jak McIntosh, Alex McIntosh, a step granddaughter, Rhea Bateman, three great grandchildren Sophia Bruzzone, Theodor Bruzzone, and Hank Grenda and one step great grandchild, Brayden Hermansen.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Views. They did everything they could to make Gwen's final years as happy and comfortable as possible.
Owing to Covid 19 restrictions, a Celebration of Life will be held via Zoom on Saturday, June 12th at 1 pm PDT. If you would like to attend, please email: owl30@shaw.ca. Donations to the Canadian Cancer or Alzheimer's Societies would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
