In loving memory ~
Hans Nis Jurgen Petersen passed away peacefully December 1, 2022.
He is survived by his wife Bev, children; Les (Jane), Jim (Bonnie), Hans Jr. (Michelle), Naomi (Ryan), granddaughter Sienna, brother Harald (Cher), sister Con, extended family Gary, John (Sandra), Jeni (Marcel) many nieces and nephews, and childhood friend Jelle VanderMeer. Predeceased by brothers Onno & Phil, sister Kit and dear friend Tom Cox.
Hans was born in the Netherlands emigrating to Canada at the age of fifteen and settling in Port Alberni, BC.
With his creative spirit he began building furniture, leading to an apprenticeship and education in carpentry, building technology and architectural design and a long career in the building industry.
Hans loved his community and served in many ways. In 2015 he was honoured as a Citizen of the Century.
What he loved more than anything was his home and the many events and occasions when the backyard was filled with joy and laughter, family, extended family and friends, who will remember him fondly for his kind, trusting, friendly generous nature, his wit and charm, his creative talents and skills.
A lover of nature and animals, he walked softly on this earth with a spring to his step and a smile for everyone he met.
The family would like to thank the health care workers, Doctors and Nurses for the wonderful care given Hans on his journey with Parkinsons and Lewy Body Dementia, with a special thank you to Dr. Daws for her care and compassion.
A Celebration of Life will held at a later date.
