Our family is saddened to announce the sudden passing of Harvey Maxwell May on May 16, 2016. Harv was born on June 15, 1938 in Badger, Nfld. At the age of 18, he left the rock to see the world by joining the Canadian Armed Forces as a pilot. He often regaled stories to anyone that would listen of his adventures in Marveille, France flying CF 100’s. He spent 5 years in New Zealand as an air traffic controller and then returned to Canada and rejoined the CAF. Some of his proudest moments were his days as a pilot, especially flying the Boeing 707 around the globe. Harv retired in 1992 and fulfilled a life long dream by sailing in the South Pacific for several years. His love of boats was an integral part of Harv’s life, and he was always a Captain - in the air and on the sea.

He is going to be missed by his dear wife Heide, his daughter Carol (Chris), and sons Kevin (Cathy) and Brian (Alison) and his faithful, furry companion Maya. Harvey will be remembered and missed by many brothers and sisters and extended family in Nfld, and many friends across the country.

High Flight

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,

And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

Of sun-split clouds, --and done a hundred things

High in the sunlit silence. Hovering there

I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung

My eager craft through footless halls of air…

Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue

I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace

Where never lark or even eagle flew —

And, while with silent lifting mind I’ve trod

The high untrespassed sanctity of space,

Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
