January 23, 1942 - March 11, 2020
Harvey Ronald Brown passed away peacefully in the early morning of Wednesday, March 11th, at home and surrounded by family. Harvey lived a life full of adventure yet had a profound sense of community and his roots within the Valley ran deep. Born in Comox and raised in Royston, Harvey graduated from St. Michaels University School in Victoria and finished grade 13 at St. Georges University School in Vancouver, majoring in rugby and beer drinking. He was a lifelong entrepreneur and investor in his community and in his latter years gave wise counsel freely to those that sought it. Several businesses bore his mark, perhaps most importantly to him, Brown Fuels and the Waverley Hotel. His love of Cumberland drove him to run for office and he served honourably as Mayor as well as Councilor.
Quick to laugh and able to hold a grudge without it weighing on him, Harvey raced stock cars and sailboats, heli skied, cruised the Pacific coast and seas and raised hell on occasion. In retirement, he fished whenever he could, never losing his awe for the natural beauty surrounding us. His last battle with cancer was not his first and Harvey fought to the end with the same vigor he brought to all adversities he faced in life. He was predeceased by his parents Matthew and Ettie Brown of Royston. Harvey was 78 years old and is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Shannon, sister Lynne, children Tracey (Paul), Vickey (Adam), Carrie, Matt (Chelsea) and Karen (Andy); grandchildren Samuel, Nicholas, Alden, Lukasz and Marjorie and many nieces and nephews. We are extremely grateful for the excellent care and support we received from friends and family so he could stay at home in his final days as well as the palliative care team.
Due to the current global health situation a Celebration of Life will be held in the future. Please watch for announcements. Condolences may be offered at www.telfordtoneffboyd.ca
