March 19, 1935 - September 17, 2016

We lost Herb to cancer after many months of pain and tribulation which he bore so bravely, never complaining of the discomfort we knew he was in.

Herb leaves his wife, Lou with whom he spent the last ten years. Her devotion to him was steady and constant throughout his ordeal. He also leaves his daughter Naomi who was not in his life for many years, nevertheless his love for her was important to him. Also his two sisters, Florence and Ivy; the last two of a family of eight, and several neices and nephews and one great-neice, Alison, who he was very proud of. He also leaves his Terrace siblings, BettyLee, Peter and Dan vanStolk.

When Herb left school in Terrace he went to work for CPR on the trains - A job he loved. His working life consisted of many vocations; The Taxi business in Burnaby; fishing (Herring) and oyster growing and harvesting; his last work was in Campbell River at the net loft. His cooking skills were legend and he loved serving his specialty dishes to those around him.

We will miss his gregarious and fun-loving personality. Once you met him you’d never forget him and we will think of him always with love.

Goodbye dear brother, your support and protection meant a lot to me growing up.

May the wind be always at your back.

There will be no service at his request

and his ashes are to be scattered in Baynes Sound.
