Bilbey, Herbert Clinton

Sept 22, 1922 - Feb 14, 2007

Herbert Bilbey passed away peacefully at home in his sleep at the age of 84 on February 14th, 2007. Herbert was born in Eriksdale, Manitoba on September 22, 1922. Herbert was the adored, youngest son of Robert and Edith in a large family with six sisters (Grace, Ivy, Rose, Beatrice, Mabel and Margery) and two brothers (Robert and George). He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of sixty years Evelyn, his daughter Sandra, son and daughter-in-law Jim and Marie-Christine, grandchildren Nicolas, Alizée, Stéphane, Robyn and Joel. Herbert also will be missed by a large number of his nieces and nephews in Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario. ?

Herbert served for thirty-six years in the dental corps of the Canadian Armed Forces and was a veteran of both the Second World War and the Korean War where he earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues as one of the most skilled practitioners and inspiring teachers in his field. After completing his final posting in Victoria in 1977, Herbert and Evelyn retired to Radford Beach where they lived happily for twenty-three years, enjoying frequent visits from their many relatives and friends. Herb, from boyhood, was an avid outdoorsman and keen fisherman and spent many memorable days salmon fishing off Point Holmes. He also enjoyed the camaraderie of many hunting trips with his brothers-in-law and friends in Alberta in years past.

Herb was respected and loved by everyone for his generous spirit, kindness, sensitivity, inherent good humor and gentle manner. Throughout his retirement years he spent a considerable amount of time with his cherished grandchildren.? His caring personality and commitment has greatly influenced the successes they have had thus far.? They will forever remember the fishing trips, the walks along the beach, and all the amazing summers spent with their grandfather.? There are few who can claim to have been impacted so greatly by their grandparents, and we were truly blessed to have had him.? He will live on in our hearts and memories.

According to the wishes of Herb and Evelyn there will be no funeral ceremony. There will be a Celebration of Herb’s life at a later time with family and friends.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Angus and Rolande for their many years of enduring friendship and support to both Herb and Evelyn.

Herbert’s family is grateful for the excellent care provided by Dr. Barb Fehlau for the past several years.

?

In his honor, cherish a happy thought of Herbert.
