MARSHALL

Herbert Henry

Nov. 12, 1921 - Sept 28, 2007

Herb passed away peacefully at Berwick in Comox, BC on September 28, 2007 after a lengthy battle with Leukemia. Predeceased by his mother Bertha and his father Everett and by his sisters Isabel, Vivian and Helen. Fondly remembered and deeply missed by Evelyn, his wife of 61 years, his children Neil (Sandra), Alan (Maisie), and Gail (Raymond) Stowe, his grandchildren Rachel, Aaron, Kirsten, Jessica, Jori, Lara and Jordan, 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Herb was born on November 12, 1921 and moved with his family to a homestead near Ryland, ON when he was 8 years old.

He served with the Canadian Army until his honourable discharge and then began his career as a papermaker with the Spruce Falls Paper Company in Kapuskasing, ON. He married Evelyn Hickey on August 16, 1946 and they moved to Port Alberni, BC in 1957 where he continued his paper making career with MacMillan Bloedel Ltd. until his retirement in 1982. Shortly after his retirement Herb and Evelyn took up residence at Ship’s Point and enjoyed their time there until they moved to Berwick in February 2007.

Herb will always be remembered for his warm smile, the twinkle in his blue eyes and his love of music and a good joke. He was always willing to get out his guitar and share his songs and stories to the delight of all.

Evelyn and family would like to extend their appreciation to all the staff at Berwick for their care and compassion and especially to the nursing staff for their loving care which Herb so much appreciated.

A Service of Remembrance will take place at 1:00 pm on Thursday, October 4, 2007 at Piercy’s - Mt. Washington Funeral Home, 440 England Avenue, Courtenay, BC (250)334-4464.
