She was a charter member of the Order of the Royal Purple, participating in all activities wholeheartedly, a Past Honored Royal Lady receiving her 50 year pin honoring her years of service. She had also been a member of the Pythian Sisters in earlier years. Always friendly with a ready smile, she enjoyed this special part of her life and her association with her many friends. Born in Hull, England, she came to Canada with her mother at a very young age, living in Winnipeg where brothers Harold and Albert Dixon were born. Then she moved to Kelowna and on to Vancouver where she married Fred Barrass, then moved to Powell River where her 3 children were born. With mother and brothers in Courtenay, a move to the Island was inevitable and had, at the time of her death, lived here in Courtenay for about 58 years. Always an active member of the community along with her husband Fred she worked in several shops such as, The Fifth Avenue Style Shop, Lads and Lassies and Totem Stationary. She will be missed, an inspiration to all. Many appreciative thanks to doctors and nurses for their tender, compassionate care while in the hospital, and to Dr. Reggler and Dr. Blacklock for their continuing care. Many at the Cumberland Day Program, wonderful home care girls, Carol - her special friend and hairdresser, neighbors Dave and Helena McArthur - always caring and dear friends for many years, and many more are remembered. A Celebration and Remembrance of her Life will be held Friday, April 15, 2005 at 1:00 P.M. from COMOX VALLEY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORIUM, 1101 RYAN ROAD, COURTENAY, B.C.
