July 12, 2018
Ian died peacefully on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at home with his family by his side at a time of his choosing. Ian is survived by his daughter Janine; son Bruce (Danetta); grandchildren Riordan, Justin and Corrine; brothers Neil (Jeanne) and Philip (Emily). Ian was predeceased by his wife Carol in 2001.

He was born in Dundee, Scotland, and had an unusual childhood spending the early years of his life in Sudan, Egypt, South Africa and Germany. Ian, along with his parents and siblings, emigrated to Edmonton, AB in 1953. It was in Edmonton where Ian completed his education, leading to journeyman qualifications in several trades and ultimately to the ownership of a service company, Micro Maintenance Ltd. Ian's entrepreneurial ambitions didn't end there however. With his wife, Carol, he also opened a jewelry boutique and a pet store.

Ian loved to sail, ski and scuba dive. He and Carol spent many summers (and some winters) diving at Hubbles Lake west of Edmonton, in the lakes in Jasper National Park and on the West Coast.

Ian sold his businesses in Edmonton and in 1986 fulfilled his lifelong dream of moving to Vancouver Island and living on a boat! Using his great woodworking and other skills, he spent several years converting an old fisheries protection vessel into a live-aboard which he and Carol used until her death. For the last years of his life Ian lived in Courtenay, BC enjoying golfing, sailing and woodworking in the company of his family and friends. His brothers remember fondly a number of yachting and boating trips with Ian in the Gulf Islands.

His family would like to thank Dr. Jonathan Reggler for his kind, compassionate and professional care during the last weeks of Ian's life. They would also like to thank Ian's friend, Nettie Harland, who went the extra mile in helping to look after him in his final weeks.

Please join us in remembering Ian by visiting our memorial at www.piercysmtwashingtonfuneral.com.

There will be no funeral but the family will have a Celebration of Life at a later date.
