Irene died in the Comox Valley hospice on August 18th, 2015. During the last weeks of her life she was surrounded by innumerable friends as well as her extended family. Although she endured many years of poor health, she met each day, and every visitor, with dignity, grace, and love. Because of these qualities, as well as her wicked sense of humour, Irene drew many people into her life, who were cheered by her company up to the very end. This was a life well lived.
A celebration of Irene’s life was held on August 21st in a garden she loved. Family and friends created an event to fulfill what Irene had imagined and hoped for - a ‘send off’ full of joy. It was complete with anecdotes from her loved ones, her favorite music and poetry, and was set in a beautiful garden. The sun shone brightly.
We will all miss Irene - her vitality, compassion, authenticity, and humour. Her love for her friends and family was unconditional.
