Isabelle was born to Arthur and Sarah Beardsmore on May 17th, 1924, in Peterborough, ON. She passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 97, on February 26th, 2022. She fell in love and married Claude Hewitt in Peterborough on April 29th, 1960 and they moved out west to Campbell River, BC in 1977. In September of that year, they took a job as the caretakers of the gas dock and general store on nearby Stuart Island. It was here that Isabelle fell in love with the wild Pacific Coast. Nature walks, making wine, baking and playing games with Claude helped to pass the days when not attending to their duties.
They eventually moved to Courtenay where she took a job as the receptionist at Coastal Community Credit Union until she retired in 1989 at the age of 65. Isabelle loved the Lord and was a proud member of Cumberland United Church for many years until they closed their doors in 2017, at which time she transferred her membership and became part of the St.George's United congregation. It was her faith in Jesus that got her through the hard times.
She is predeceased by her loving husband Claude and eldest daughter Jeanne. She is survived by her daughter Karen (Bob), who helped care for her in her final years, as well as 4 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
She always offered a listening ear and wise advice. Whenever anyone asked how she was doing she'd almost always respond with "Oh, not so bad for an old girl!". She knew the meaning of keeping your chin up and your mind at peace. She will be missed dearly by her friends and family.
Deuteronomy 33:27 hung on her wall and read:
"The eternal God is your refuge,
and His everlasting arms are under you."
