December 19, 1921 - September 17, 2019
Isabelle passed peacefully at Ocean View Senior Care Residence in Comox at the age of 97. She had hoped to make 100, but didn't quite make it, although she lived in her own home in Royston BC until 94 years of age.
Isabelle was born in the Swan River Valley, Manitoba to Eva (Burrows) and Allen Foster. She completed her schooling there and in 1942 married Sid Kitchener in Kenville, Manitoba. Blaine and Judy were born and the young family of four moved to BC in 1952. They arrived in the Comox Valley in 1953. Isabelle worked at the Gem Café on 6th street in Courtenay before Tom and Carol were born, at which time she became a stay at home mom. After the children left home she worked several years with the Comox Valley Homemakers Service caring for seniors.
She got much enjoyment from many of the needle arts; including embroidery, knitting, and crotchet. Isabelle excelled at the making of hand stitched quilts and we are the proud owners of her quilts. She was a long time member of the Courtenay Evergreen Club where she participated in the Scrabble Player's and Quilter's Clubs. Isabelle and Sid along with three of their children and spouses belonged to the Ocean Waves Square Dance Club. Mom had a sweet tooth, and when she was out for dinner she always made sure to pick out desert before ordering her meal.
Isabelle was predeceased by her husband Sid Kitchener (1995), daughter Judy (2014) & son-in-law Don Larsen (2011). Sisters Vivian, Irene, Joy, and brother Edwin.
She is survived by her sister Gaylene (Doug) McDonald, sons; Blaine (Shirley) Kitchener, Tom (Sandra) Kitchener, and daughter Carol (Norm) Beech. Grandchildren; Charlene (Bob) Sieffert, Valerie (Rob) Gould, Deborah Kitchener, Allen (Chelsea) Larsen, Carmen Larsen, (Jacek Szudek), Ian (Lauren) Kitchener, Julie (Doug) Van Der Vlugt, Sarah Beech, Elizabeth (Richard) Wenneberg. 12 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Flowers gratefully declined. A memorial tea will be held Saturday 28th September from 1-4 pm. At D'Esterre Senior Centre (upper hall) 1801 Beaufort Ave. Comox BC
