MACKELVIE, Isobel Janet (nee Coltman)
Born: April 1, 1921, Hamilton, ON
Died: July 10, 2010, Ottawa, ON
Isobel passed away while visiting her son and his family in Ottawa. She was thrilled to travel to Ottawa with her two daughters, to see her granddaughter give the valedictorian speech at her graduation and to see her two great grandsons.
She is predeceased by her husband, Robert (Bob), of Comox, BC and her sister, Peggy Putney, also of Comox, BC. She is survived by her children; Doug, Marg Foster (Glen), Jan Elman (Steve) and Jim (Linda); her grandchildren; Jen, Fred, Nathan, Sarah; and her great grandchildren; Jack and Rory.
Before settling in Comox in 1978, Bob’s career took Isobel and family to many places including Europe, Africa and North America. She remained very independent and active in many senior’s activities right up until her trip to Ottawa.
The family thanks Dr. Ptak for intentionally discussing a living will with Isobel which allowed us to know her personal decisions regarding health care. We also thank Dr. Daws for giving Isobel such a detailed written history of health issues and medications, as it allowed health providers in Ottawa to know immediately the appropriate course of care.
A celebration of Isobel’s life will be held July 19, 2010, 2:00pm at Comox United Church
