VYE, J. Gordon

Born May 30th, 1933 in Duncan, BC; deceased March 12th, 2003 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, ECU, Comox, BC. He is predeceased by his son Jim, 1999; his father George; his mother Nessie (Syme); sister Audrey Vye/Irish/Brown; and brother Wilfred. He is survived by his best friend and devoted wife of 29 years, Donna (Clements); brother Bob (Louise) of Crofton; the mother of his children, Patricia Forrest of Crofton; sons: Stephen (Carole) and granddaughter Shannon of Cowichan Bay; David of Crofton; Larry (Janice) of Sechelt; and daughter Laura (Scott Emerson), and granddaughter Lauren of West Vancouver. Gord moved to the Comox Valley in 1972 to become the first paid fire chief for the Comox Volunteer Fire Department. Due to illness, he resigned in 1974, but stayed associated with the department until his death. He was proud of the many years he devoted to the Fire Service after joining the Crofton Volunteer Fire Department at age 16, and served many years as chief there. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 22nd, 2003 at the Crofton Fire Hall, Crofton, BC. Gord received such excellent care and wonderful support from every hospital department and his wonderful friends during his many years of illness. He would like donations made in his memory to the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation, 2137 Comox Avenue, Comox, BC V9M 1P2 (please mention Gord’s name as it goes into a special fund). Mount Washington Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
