Jabez Kruithof

October 31, 1947 - Scheveningen, Holland

October 30, 2008 - Burke Channel, BC

Full of love and energy, Jabez’s life was tragically lost to the ocean in a boating accident, leaving behind a huge void. Devastated by their tremendous loss are Khrysty, his loving soul mate of 38 years, and his sons Skya and Jesse. Grieving deeply are Jabez’s brothers and sisters of Holland Arie, Cees, David, Mirjam, Margreet, Marsha, Jónathan, Benjamin, Daniel, Debóra and Willem of Courtenay. Also grieving deeply Khrysty’s sisters Natalie, Yvonne and Kathy of Edmonton and brother Derek of Kelowna. Jabez will be lovingly remembered by his many nieces and nephews, to whom he was a great friend and inspiration. Jabez and Khrysty are amongst the eight founding families of Syzygy Co-operative Community (1974) on Hornby Island, where their sons were born and raised. Jabez will be dearly missed by his Syzygy family and the many friends whose lives he touched on Hornby Island. Passionate about nature with a deep respect for the environment, Jabez was a pioneer of the silviculture industry. Jabez will be missed by Dirk and his co-workers at Brinkman & Associates, with whom he shared 32 years of growth and adventure. From Alaska to New Westminster, from the Queen Charlotte Islands to Northern Ontario, Jabez was loved and respected among the people of the forest industries for his knowledge, professionalism and can do attitude, as well as his bear hugs and great smile. He was a legend for many who knew him. A Celebration of Jabez’s life will be held on Sunday, November 9th between the hours of 1 and 4 PM at Crown Isle Resort located at 399 Clubhouse Drive, Courtenay, BC (top of Ryan Road hill, across from the new Toyota dealership).
