The family of Jacob (Jake) Volkers are extremely sad to announce his March 2nd passing. He passed on his own terms at home with loving family by his side.
Jacob Volkers was born August 18, 1933, in Heerhugowaard, the Netherlands. He was the youngest of five children. He experienced the trials of WWII, but also the joy when his town was liberated by the Canadian Forces.
Upon completion of his school years, he immigrated to Canada in April 1953.Jake worked on a farm in Manitoba and eventually came west. First Oliver and then onto Prince George where he began his work in forestry. He eventually owned a logging company and working in the Horsefly area. In 1979, he and his family moved to the Comox Valley. Living here was a totally enjoyable life.
He was predeceased by his first wife in 1965. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Sally and son James and grandchildren Christopher, Jacob, Mikayla and Jesse. He is survived by his son Jacob from his first marriage and granddaughter Loralee in Alberta, sister in law Unita Arbea, elder sister Meins in the Netherlands, and many nieces and nephews.
Jake and Sally travelled to many destinations throughout world and enjoyed boating, fishing and camping.
The family would like to thank the nurses and care aids from VIHA for their care. A private family service per his request.
