Bob passed away unexpectedly on December 16th, 2013 in St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Born on September 12, 1933 in Bindjei, Indonesia, he is predeceased by his loving wife of 47 years, Klaartje (Clara) Nijhoff. He is survived by his son Jacques (Jenny) Nijhoff, grandsons Liam & Logan, daughter Wanda (Robert) Story, granddaughter Grada (Andy), and grandsons Kent (Lena), & Seth, sister Han Vanderley (Jerry) & family and sister-in-law, Tiny (Harry) Mentink & family.

Bob grew up in the Netherlands, leaving Holland in 1955 for a better life in Canada. He studied agriculture and soils in Guelph Ontario, which would later lead him to a 35 year career as a GeoTech with the BC Department of Highways. After 5 years in Canada, Bob enticed his high school sweet-heart to Victoria where they would marry and develop many good lifetime friends. Their two children were born in Victoria before moving to Vanderhoof, Nelson, and Lantzville. Bob later moved to Courtenay. Bob was an avid tennis player, fisherman and writer. Bob always enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He will forever remain in our hearts.
