November 25, 1938 - February 13, 2017 Jim, a resident of Courtenay, BC, passed away on February 13, 2017 after a prolonged illness. Jim was born in Grande Prairie, Alberta and grew up in Camrose with his parents Cliff and Irma Black. He attended the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology for a Diploma in Architectural Technology and began his career in the Alberta Department of Public Works. In Edmonton he worked for Diamond Clark & Associates, Edwards Woolfenden Erickson Architects, and Woolfenden Hamilton Brown before moving to Vancouver Island where he started his own business as a freelance draftsman. He is survived by Colleen, his wife of 52 years, and sons Daren, Casey (Lisa), Tyler (Tara), and his brother Darryle (Reta). Jim was a devoted family man and felt blessed to become a grandfather to his precious grandchildren, Ella, Aurora, Gwyneth, Sabine, and Willa. A memorial service will be held at Comox United Church, Feburary 24th, 2017 at 1:20pm. Memorial gifts to Canadian Blood Services, The Stephen Lewis Foundation (260 Spadina Ave, Suite 501, Toronto ON, M5T 2E4), Comox United Church (250 Beach Dr, Comox, V9M 1P9), or charity of your choice would be gratefully appreciated.
