James Richards passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Comox, BC on April 2nd, 2006.
Jim was born March 15th, 1927 in Amherst Island, Ontario, and grew up in Napanee, Ontario; he attended Queens University and Western University, completed his PHD and did a Post - Doctoral Degree in Bio-Chemistry at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. Jim taught for 32 years at the UBC, he had a strong love of music, particularly Opera, enjoyed cooking and golfing. He was an avid runner, completing three marathons. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Ruth Calder, sons Robert (Susan), Andrew (Dawn), daughter Christine, step-daughter Danielle Baxter, grandchildren: Matthew, Jessica, Jordan, Rylan, Halle, as well as many other relatives and friends. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Manville, Dr. Engman, Dr. Austin and the staff in I.C.U. at St. Joseph’s Hospital. A Funeral Service will be held Friday, April 7th, 2006 at 2:00 pm at Piercy’s - Mt. Washington Funeral Home, 440 England Avenue, Courtenay with Chaplain Gordon Carter officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined; however donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
