James (Jim) Merlin Ferris born in Stewiacke, Nova Scotia on April 12th, 1948 passed away unexpectedly in his home on January 16, 2008 from the loving arms of his wife of 40 years, Pam Ferris, to the loving care of his mother Verna and his father Alan who predeceased him. He was loved by everyone who had the fortune to know him, but will especially be missed by his children Krystal Widdifield and Steve Ferris, his brothers Larry and Jackie Ferris, and by all his brothers and sisters-in-law who considered him to be a true brother of their own.

He was a proud military man who served his country in the R.C.A.F. as a Safety Systems Technician for 27 years quickly making friends wherever he went with his easy smile and happy-go-lucky manner. An avid reader with a voracious appetite for knowledge, he would read just about anything he could get his hands on. He was not a man you wanted to sit across a Trivial Pursuit Board from, not if you wanted to win. He was a real man's man who enjoyed relaxing in his recliner, watching sports of every description as well as any educational program he happened to flip past. With never a bad word to say about anyone and a hearty chuckle that was truly infectious, his kindness and positive, larger-than-life attitude made every day spent with him a blessing. He will be remembered and honoured as the best husband, the best father, and the best friend who ever lived and he will be missed and loved with the same passion he exhibited for life.

A memorial service was held for him at COMOX VALLEY FUNERAL HOME on January 21st, at 10am. Donations on his behalf may be made to St. Joseph's Hospital in Comox.
