January 26, 1959 - May 14, 2021
Jimmy passed away suddenly while enjoying one of his favourite things - an evening at home by his firepit with family and friends and his rum and coke in hand.
He was predeceased by his father Albert, mother Ruby, brother Richard, brother-in-law Stewart, best friend from childhood Larry Bennie (Shoeman), many other extended family and close friends, and his precious pups Clammy and Milly.
He is survived by his wife Shelley, son Jesse (Stephanie), stepson Kenny, sister Audrey, sister-in-law Tricia, granddaughter Annika, three nieces, three nephews, twelve great nieces and nephews, father-in-law Mike, mother-in-law Ruth, many cousins and other extended family, many close friends that he considered family, and his precious pups Cooper and Toma.
Jimmy was born in St. Joseph's General Hospital and grew up in Cumberland where he lived until 1995 when he and Shelley decided to move to Woss. Although it was hard for him to leave Cumberland, it was a decision he never regretted. He loved Woss and still visited Cumberland and his family and friends there.
Dave and Aunti Mare's was his second home, and he treasured the friendship we all shared. As everyone who knew him can attest to, he was an avid (okay obsessive) Habs fan all his life and anyone that has ever been in our home knows that it is littered with Habs memorabilia.
He loved his heckling with the Browne boys when the Habs played the Canucks and his six pack bets with Ken when the Habs played Toronto, especially when the beer truck was coming up the hill.
He enjoyed his after-work beers with Dwight, his after work BS sessions with Robin, hassling the terrorists next door and weekend afternoons having a beer in Mark's shop. He was a football fan and looked forward to his phone calls with Blakey when the Titans played against the Dolphins as well as his weekly Sports Action picks with Pat.
He enjoyed hunting in his younger years, especially the Greenwood trips. He loved to fish (not very successfully). Kevin was his favourite fishing buddy, and he was quite proud of the Golden Flipper award that he and Bobby won one year at a fishing derby on Woss Lake. He loved to spend time at John's cabin on Woss Lake, especially the family camping trips.
Muzzie's cabin at Stockand Bay was a huge favourite, especially August long weekend with all of the crew. He enjoyed many good times around the fire pits in the bay and quite a few rough mornings after, which he always blamed on Gavin's night night drinks. We won't share details because we all know the rule - what happens up the lake stays up the lake.
He and Shelley were able to make two trips to Cuba to meet friends of our good friend and neighbour Hal. He loved touring all over Havana and hanging at the lobby bar making new friends. He always wanted to be a Papa and Jesse and Stephanie granted his wish in January 2019 when Annika was born.
He began his working career in 1976 at seventeen and worked in the logging industry for nearly forty-five years. He started in Vernon Camp and eventually ended up in Woss Camp. He did many different jobs and finally got a posting running log loader, which he loved.
There just aren't the right words to express how grateful we are, but the family would like to thank everyone that visited, phoned, texted, sent flowers and plants, many other kind, and thoughtful gifts, brought food, did yard work, fed the fish, and did everything they could think of to look after us and help us.
We are so grateful to Woss Volunteer Fire Department for their fast response and everything they did. You guys are amazing!
We would also like to thank Krista from Toneff Funeral Home for the kindness and compassion she showed and the way she tried to make a difficult time as easy as possible for us.
A celebration of Jimmy's life is being planned for a date later in the summer.
