September 12, 2016

September 15, 1924 – September 12, 2016

Janet passed away peacefully at her home in Victoria on September 12th with her husband, Edward (Ted), by her side. Janet is survived by her husband of 70 years, Ted; children, Gerry (Nancy), Gail, Cathy (Dave), Rosemary (Zlatko), and Joan (Jay); grandchildren, Brendan (Nadia), Karen (Ryan), David, Michael, Alan (Jennifer), Heather (Jen), Annie, and Ted (Meagan); 7 greatgrandchildren; and brother, Dick (Alice). Janet was born in Comox, BC on September 15, 1924 and grew up in the neighbouring farming community of Merville. In 1942, she moved to Victoria to attend Victoria Normal School. After completing her teachers training Janet returned to her hometown and taught grades 4 and 5 at Tsolum School. In 1945, the love of her life, Ted Vaughan, returned from overseas. In no time they were engaged, and married the following year on June 28, 1946. Janet raised 5 children. Once the kids were older she returned to school to get her diploma in early childhood education then worked in the field for several years. During retirement Janet enjoyed visiting with family, travelling, gardening, knitting, and volunteering. Janet lived a full and happy life. She was a much loved mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother who will be remembered for her love and kindness to all; her special connection with young children; her gorgeous gardens; and her beautiful baking – to name just a few of her many wonderful characteristics and talents. A celebration of her life will be held in Merville, BC in October.
