Monro, Jean Grace

(nee McKay)

February 26,1929- November 20, 2014

Jean passed away at her home in Courtenay, B.C. at the age of 85. Jean was predeceased by her parents, her 2 brothers Willie and Sandy, her daughter Jane (Walter) Boettcher. Survived by her Sister Dorothy (Ken) Nunn of Australia, son David (Claire) Monro in Courtenay, Daughter Marlene Monro in Edmonton Alberta, and her 4 grandchildren, Mandi and Sarah Boettcher, William and Lexie Monro.

Jean was born in Aberdeen Scotland then moved to Canada in 1956 to follow her husband to be, Derek. They had 3 children in the 60’s as she followed Derek across Canada and Europe through his military career where she finally stopped in the Comox Valley and said no more moving. Jean found work right away in 1974 at the Mexicana Motor Inn were she worked till retiring in 1994, earning the nick name” Jean Jean the Cooking Machine”. She made lots of good friends over the 20 years working there as they showed that by chipping in and sending her to Australia for her retirement present to see her sister.

Jean loved her children and grandchildren very much,and they will miss her dearly.

A Celebration of her Life will be held at The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 17, 367 Cliffe Ave, Courtenay, December 5th, 2014, at 1:00pm to 3:00pm, upstairs.
