The Comox Valley has lost a long time resident and beloved doctor.

Dr James Bell Lunam died at the Glengarry hospital in Victoria BC. Dr. Lunam was born and raised in Campbellton NB. He received a BSc from UNB and later MDCM from McGill. He served in the war as a Medical Officer with the Canadian Army Medical Corps from 1941 to 1945. Jim, as he preferred to be called, moved to the Comox Valley with his family in 1947 to practice family medicine. Following retirement in 1974, he did locums for eight years.

An avid outdoorsman, Jim loved hiking, camping and fly-fishing.

Traveling, piano lessons and involvement in the Comox Valley Naturalists filled his retirement years.

Jim will be greatly missed by his wife Betty, his three children Doug (Margaret), John and Ann (Richard Brenton) five grand children Charene (Dwayne) Janna, Sean, Matthew and Jennifer, 2 great grand children Kaitlin and Carter; Betty’s children Michelle, Nicole, Suzanne, Eric and Christine and her eight grandchildren; He also leaves behind his former wife Margaret, three nieces in Ontario, grand and great grand nieces and nephews and many friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Victoria on the 7th of March at 1802 Hollywood Crescent between 2pm and 4pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Comox Valley Naturalists Society or your favorite charity will be appreciated.
