Joan Coulter (née Frelone)

October 3, 2020

July 1, 1935 - October 3, 2020
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our much-loved mother, Joan Coulter, on October 3, at Victoria Hospice.
Joan was born and raised in Cumberland on July 1, 1935, and lived most of her life in the Comox Valley.
She was an avid basketball player in high school, playing for the Cumberland Jets and winning the Provincial championships with her team three times. After graduating, she attended Normal School in Victoria. She taught briefly in Newton, but spent the rest of her career at Cumberland Elementary and then Royston Elementary before retiring in 1990.
Joan was a dedicated teacher and special friend to many. The friends she made in childhood remained her friends her whole life. She looked forward to their regular card club, and enjoyed travelling.
During her marriage to Charlie, she travelled to Scotland, Ireland, Arizona, the Caribbean, and took the kids on many trips to Disneyland. She had fond memories of the big group trips to Mt. Washington for skiing, and to jazz festivals in Victoria and Washington.
Joan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is predeceased by her husband, Charlie, parents, Joe and Ethel and sister, Penny. She is survived by her children, Cathy (Stan), Rob (Brenda), and Kerri (Eric), grandchildren Mike, Jordan, Matthew, Katie, Ellis, and Gillian, great grandchildren Connor, Linden, Amelia, and Annabelle, as well as her sister Judy (Fraser), and brother, Johnny (Jackie.)
No service at the request of Joan and the family.
