June 14, 1930 - March 15, 2019
Mom was born in Cumberland to Cassie and Suzie Lloyd and spent her entire life in the Comox Valley.

She grew up amongst family surrounded by aunts, uncles and her grandparents Edward and Alexandra Lloyd, and grandfather Peter McNevin.

She told stories of living by the river and the tough times of the depression years. Mom had a love of the Valley and family history, and was a wealth of information regarding the coming and goings of Courtenay when it was a very a small town.

Mom was a member of the Fanny Dunkers and the Mountaineering club. She also enjoyed skiing at Forbidden Plateau in the early days. She was a Charter member of the Job's Daughters Bethel 8, and later in life she was a member of the Daughter's of the Nile and the Isis Club.

She graduated from Courtenay High School in 1949 and married the love of her life Rolly Mitchell in 1953.

Mom had a passion for Archeology and assisted Katherine Capes, on many of her "Digs" and was a lifetime member of the Comox Valley Museum Society.

Mom was a homemaker and spent many hours researching her family history she enjoyed gardening, and always fed the wild birds and nursed many wild animals back to good health.

She was predeceased by her parents Iorwerth (Suzie) Lloyd, Catherine Lloyd, son Robert Mitchell, brother Griffin Lloyd, and husband of 64 years Roland Mitchell.

Mom will be sadly missed by son Bill (Tammy) Mitchell, Janet (Walter) Penner and Dianne (Ignacio) Pizarro, nine grand children and two great grand children.

Mom and Dad loved to dance to the sounds from the Big Band era, and we hope that they are now united once again and are dancing across the heavens in love's embrace.

There will be a joint celebration of life for Roland & Joan Mitchell on June 15th time and location to be announced in the Comox Valley Record.
