John Charles Matthews was born on 14 May 1941 in Prince Rupert, British Columbia (Lived in Anyox, BC). He died on 14 Aug 2021 in Comox.
He is predeceased by his first wife Mary Ellen Scott (daughter of Thomas Douglas Scott of Powell River). They lived for years in Black Creek. John and Mary had two children, David (Laureen) and Kevin. John had three grandchildren (Kelsey, Zachary, and Sean) and two great grandchildren (Odin and Olivia).
John had three sisters and was predeceased by his eldest sister Heather (Gord). His two surviving sisters are Mary (Glen) and Nancy (David). John is survived by his wife Rema Matthews who he married in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Together John and Rema moved to their current home Courtenay several years ago. With Rema's loving support John was able to pass at his home as per his wishes.
John worked for many years before his retirement for Okanagan / Canadian Helicopters. He was a member of Hiram Lodge #14.
