Capling, John Douglas

July 18, 1928 - Dec 18, 2004

John passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Comox, BC on December 18, 2004. He leaves behind his loving wife of 53 years, Myrtle. He leaves to mourn his sons: Stephen (Lynn) of Williams Lake, Jamie (Donna) of Comox, Jeffrey of Vancouver, Roger of Comox; sisters: Gloria (Reg) Brearley of Pointe Claire, Que., Joan (Dr. Jack) Krayenhoff of Victoria; sister-in-law Betty Capling of Wisconsin; two grandchildren Michael and Jodie Capling of Williams Lake; and his loving aunt Catherine Ernst of Kitchener, ON. He was predeceased by his parents Ephriam and Beulah (Eby) Capling and his brother Dr. Robert Capling. John was born on July 18, 1928 in Kitchener, ON. He enlisted in the RCAF in 1950 as a meteorological technician and enjoyed the many transfers in Canada along with Myrtle and children. He was an avid bridge player until ill health forced him to retire from active participation. John also enjoyed the many years of living at Little River where he attended to the roses and did lots of beachcombing. John attended Comox United Church until ill health prevented him from regular attendance. Special thanks to Dr. Rene Weir of Victoria, Dr. Silcox and staff of Courtenay Medical Clinic and all the nurses at the Cumberland Dialysis Clinic (you are my heroes) and to our very special and caring minister Rev. Maggie Enwright.

And I will raise you up

on eagle’s wings,

Bear you on the breath

of dawn,

Make you to shine

like the sun,

And hold you in the palm

of my hand.

(Psalm 91)
