JOHN ERNEST DICKIE

July 8th, 1946 – Oct 10th, 2007

It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of our brother, father, “far away grandpa “and friend. John passed away suddenly in Paramaribo, Suriname at the age of 61 years.

John is survived by brother Bill (Ann), son Neil (Dannette), daughter Jennifer (Brad); five grandchildren Jacob, Caedon, Taliah, Tianna and Taia; nieces Stephanie and Sheila.

John was born July 8th, 1946 in Vancouver BC and spent the summers on Thetis Island at the family vacation property until 1959 when the family moved to the island. In his youth John worked as a deckhand for the Thetis Island ferry (when it was only six cars) and started SCUBA diving when the sport was in its infancy- back when one was self-taught or taught by a friend.

John attended Vancouver Vocational Institute, graduated in Heavy Duty Mechanics and apprenticed Hoffars of Burnaby BC. John worked many years on the coast in the marine industry at Hoffars/Cullen Detroit Diesel in Campbell River and was well respected as a person of integrity and hard work. John spent the last 10 years of life in Curacao and Suriname with many close friends, loving the people and culture. He is remembered as a loving, kind and generous man by all that he met.

“VERY PROUD OF MY CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES, WHAT MORE IS THERE”

John is now released from his long labors and at peace in Gods loving arms.

You will be missed Dad but always close in our hearts and prayers.

A Memorial Service to celebrate John’s life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 19, at Capernwray Harbour Bible School, Thetis Island. Reception and Interment to follow.
