Dad died peacefully at home with his daughter, Patricia, and his care worker, Wendy, at his side.
Dad always described his life as rich and fulfilling. He was proud to have served in the Canadian Armed Forces as an Air Traffic Controller and was a mentor to many young staff. Some of his Air Traffic Controller colleagues describe him as a Legend.
Dad was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia and joined the Canadian Armed Forces when he was 17 years old. He was stationed in Germany; Edmonton, Alberta; Trenton, Ontario; Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan; Summerside, Prince Edward Island; and Comox, British Columbia. He was a proud Canadian.
Dad loved to golf and fish and was very athletic. He was a great friend to many people and would be the first person to offer support and lend a hand. He volunteered with Boy Scouts, community fire departments, credit unions and various other community groups.
Dad treasured his Scottish heritage and his roots from Newfoundland and Nova Scotia.
He will be missed by his sister Hazel (Randy) Bethune; his daughters, Debra (Gord) and Patricia (Wayne); his grandchildren Rebecca (Phillippe), Christopher (Gege) and Jenna (Kyle); and his six great grandchildren, Dylan, Maeva, Ethan, Sacha, Emmett, and Theo.
Dad was predeceased by his wife, Lorraine, his daughter, Kathy, his brother Omar, and his sisters, Jess and Marguerite.
A very special thank-you to Dad's amazing care team. This includes Dr. Langhans and Dad's Personal Support Workers, Iris Bayes, Lisa Crane, Debbie Crane, Wendy Powell, and Dawna Frelone.
There will not be a service. If people wish, they can donate in Dad's memory to Wounded Warriors Canada PTSD Service Dogs. Woundedwarriors.ca
