John Raymond Gunter

January 2, 1932 - March 1, 2022
Lifelong Comox Valley resident, John Gunter, passed away peacefully in the company of his family on Monday March 1, 2022, at Glacier View Lodge. Born in Comox January 2, 1932, John was predeceased by his parents Harry and Bertha, his brother Robert (Bob) and brothers-in-law Meinhard Klein and Lou David.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Louise, and children John Jr. (Trina), Carol (David), Rick (Lori), twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren. As well as his sister-in-law Beverly, sisters Charlene and Lucile and many nieces and nephews.
John enjoyed every one of his 90 years in the Comox Valley. He was a farmer, a logger, machine operator, mechanic, small business owner and finally a Millwright at Raven Lumber where he worked until his retirement.
Growing up in the Comox Valley also meant he knew how to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors, camping through the upper Campbell Lakes and for years at Rock Bay where he enjoyed reading and fishing. In his youth he was a 4H member, involved in the early years of the Fall Fair and getting the curling club going.
A social butterfly, he attended many dances in Valley Community Halls; he loved to sing and dance. He coached baseball and hockey when his boys played and cheered on his grandkids from the stands when they came along.
John was also a member of the Hiram Masonic Lodge, achieving Grand Master with the organization and earlier a member of the Independent Order of Oddfellows in Grantham.
Johns' family would like to thank Dr. Winter and the fantastic team of nurses and caregivers at Glacier View Lodge for the outstanding care, companionship and kindness provided daily.
As was his wish, John's family invites friends to gather and share stories and memories in Celebration of his Life on Thursday, March 17th at 1 pm at Comox Valley Funeral Home and Crematorium, 1101 Ryan Road, Courtenay, with refreshments to follow.
