After a courageous 5 1/2 year battle with cancer, Jos passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 21, 2020. He was 74.
Survived by his loving family: wife Jennifer, sons, Rod and Derek (Becky), grandson, Bodhi, his brothers, Robert (Carry) and Patrick (Sheila), niece Janet Forbes and family.
Jos was born in Bristol, England and came to Canada for university. After graduating from UVIC, he spent a career in the BC Provincial Probation Service in Campbell River and as Local Director in Courtenay.
He was a long time member of Courtenay Rotary Club, serving as president in 1993. One of his Rotary highlights was leading a group of young professionals on a month long professional exchange to Norway.
Jos was a keen fisherman in fresh and saltwater. He spent many happy hours on the ocean with his son, Rod. One of his yearly highlights was traveling to the Little Fort area for lake fishing with his Airpark Walkers. This group was a wonderful support in Jos` cancer journey. For many years, he organized a ski gathering of other probation service professionals from around the province at Mount Washington.
In recent years, another highlight was his weekly golf game with his group at Mulligans. Thanks to our various groups of friends and his own positive attitude, Jos was able to participate in a happy life to the end.
We would like to thank Jos` wonderful cancer care team in Victoria and here at the North Island Hospital. He often marvelled at how positive and helpful the local crew were.
Special thanks to Dr. A. Bakshi and Dr. S. Parimi.
