Sadly we announce the passing of our beloved father, father-in-law, Papa, Grandpa, GG; Joe Pavlik, on April 5, 2019 with his son and daughter by his side in the North Island Hospital. Joe was predeceased by his wife, Marj, in 2015, and grandson Richard in 2016, brother, John Pavlik, sister, Lillian Willams, sister/brother-in-law, Maizie and Bob Woods.

He will be missed dearly by daughter, Marlene Sawchuck (Greg), son, Doug Pavlik (Lynne) and 4 grandchildren; Allan Sawchuck (Nicole), Natalie Ward (Clay), Ryan Pavlik (Amber) and Brent Pavlik. Six wonderful great-grandchildren lit up his eyes: Carter and Jackson Sawchuck, Sean and Chelsey Pavlik, Lakey and Parker Ward. Joe's sister, Zita Kenny and sister-in-law, Ivy Bateman and many nieces and nephews will miss his kind and gentle manner.

Joe was born in Ghostpine Creek, Alberta on May 12, 1927 to Czecho-Slovakian immigrants. Dad lived on a farm and moved as a teenager to Crow's Nest Pass and then onto Cumberland to work in the mines. It was here; he met and married Mom, started a family and enjoyed life in the 50's in Cumberland before moving to Courtenay in 1957 when the mines started closing.

Dad's next and last job was managing the lumber department at Central Builders until he retired in 1981. Many happy hours and working relationships were formed here! Dad also loved volunteering for the Courtenay Fire Department for many years, building houses, playing sports especially golf at Sunnydale and points south, camping, fishing, hunting, travelling with friends and snow birding in Arizona, and many, many happy family times. We can't forget his crops of unlimited cherry tomatoes! In his last few years, Dad lived at Comox Valley Seniors Village where he met new friends and enjoyed crib.

The family is grateful to the staff at Seniors Village for his stay there. Dr. Bakshi has been a wonderful support for Dad over the years and a big thank you to the hospital staff, 3rd floor nurses and particularly the nurses on the 4th Floor, Transition Unit. Dad thought your care was WONDERFUL! A Family celebration of Dad's life will be held at a later date.
