It is with deep sadness that we share the news that our beautiful daughter, Joy Humphries, made the decision that she wanted her angel wings early.
Joy LIVED big, LOVED big and LOST big! She was an outgoing, exuberant, positive, amazing person-- an old soul who spent her whole life making everyone around her feel special. Joy had the amazing ability to touch each and every person she met.
Joy lived a lifetime in her short 12 years. She was a passionate soul which was evident in everything she chose to do! From riding her bike, dirt biking, soccer, horseback riding, protesting, first aid, acting, dancing, gymnastics, photography, football, painting and crafting.. Joy was also a huge animal lover. She spent many hours loving and caring for all her pets, big and small.
Joy had a maturity of thinking beyond her years. She made insightful and sophisticated connections between what she was doing at home, school and in the world around her. She tackled the important things like prejudice, injustice, environmentalism head on. She wasn't afraid of difficult conversations. This showed in how passionate she was about making the world a better place. Joy's passions were always filled with amazing dedication and intensity!!
Joy will be remembered for so many things....For being a warrior, an ally and a fighter for many causes that she believed in. Joy was an advocate, who spoke out for equality, acceptance, understanding and inclusion. She was a proud strong member of the LGBTQ+ group at her middle school, which was so important and close to her heart.
Joy was known for her acts of kindness, whether it was an encouraging conversation, a thoughtful card or gift, a compliment or a simple hug. She was always there for anyone with cheer, understanding and support. Joy's love and concern for everyone was always a big priority.
Whenever our family lost someone, such as Grandpa Serge, Great Grandma Humphries, Grandma Elaine, Auntie Kathy, Uncle Bob and Colton, Joy took it so very hard. It was obvious that a little part of Joy went with them.
Joy is survived by her Mom Sarah, her Father Matthew and Stepmother Blair, Stepmom Cora, Sister Evita, Brother Sam, Great Grandma Bev, Grandparents Liz and Ron, Deborah and Jerry, Nicky and John, Aunties Jodi, Jewel, Ashley (James) and Uncles Myles (Tauri), and Travis.
Joy challenged all of us to be better people and to honor Joy we ask that everyone please perform an act of kindness, treat people how you want to be treated, tell others how much they mean to you, comfort and support a friend, make every minute count and simply DO what Joy would do.
Joy, for many years, would always have a band-aid at the ready, in her purse or in a special place, just in case. Sadly, you cannot put a band-aid on mental health.
Our family is currently in the process of creating a fund to support youth with mental health issues. If you would like to support and donate to this extremely important cause, we would be so grateful! Enquiries and Etransfers can be sent to joywishesforwellness@yahoo.com
