Joycelyn May Hunt

June 3, 2020

May 6, 1932 - June 3, 2020
Long time Courtenay resident Joycelyn May Hunt nee Hunter passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on June 3, 2020 while an interim resident at the Stanford Seniors Village in Parksville. She was born May 6, 1932 to Walter and Lillian Hunter (nee Colwell) in Brandon, Manitoba.
She was pre-deceased by her husband of 60 years, Robert Lilburn Hunt in 2012, brothers Robert and Glenn and sisters Luella , Donna & Ida. She leaves behind son Daryl (Gail) of Vernon, B.C., daughters Diane (Les) of Courtenay and Yvonne (Doug) of Sherwood Park, Alberta, 4 grandchildren Sean (Carol) of Penticton, Daniel (Nicole) of Vancouver, Cameron (Ashley) of Edmonton , Kathryn (Craig) of Edmonton and 7 great grandchildren Makayla, Zoe, Logan, Andi, Shepard, Tripp and Duke. She took great interest and joy in the lives of all her family. Unfortunately, distance and health considerations limited her opportunities to visit many of them as much as she would have liked.
Throughout her varied work life, Mom was primarily a stenographer/ receptionist. At various times , she worked for the Seale & Thomson garage and car dealership, the provincial Social Services Department and John Dunnett, Insurance Adjuster. Her fondest job was as the school secretary at both Lake Trail Junior Secondary and Puntledge Park Elementary where she got a great deal of enjoyment out of working with the teaching staff and interacting with the children.
She was an active member of the local chapter of Beta Sigma Phi for more than 50 years, many of which were as part of the chapter executive.
Mom enjoyed her Wednesday Evergreen Centre Scrabble group and was always up for a good game. She was highly creative and enjoyed sewing costumes for school plays. Holidays and special occasions were always Mom's favourite times to create a special table centrepiece, decorate for Christmas or come up with new ideas for sorority events.
Following Dad's passing, Mom was fortunate enough to be able to live independently at Stevenson Place in Comox up until July 2019 when declining health no longer permitted her to do so. While at Stevenson Place, mom met another resident and fine gentleman by the name of Roy who was a recent arrival to the area from Ontario and they became good friends. Mom enjoyed many happy hours going for drives , working on jigsaw puzzles or watching Jeopardy & Wheel of Fortune with Roy. Our family is truly appreciative of the companionship and assistance Roy provided to Mom as her health slowly but steadily declined.
Mom will again be with Dad in a private interment at Courtenay Civic Cemetery.
Mom was a very giving, caring person who always put her family first. She is lovingly remembered and will be greatly missed.
At Mom's request, no celebration of life is planned.
