February 12, 2021
1929-2021 ~ It is with great sadness that the family of June Mowatt announce her passing on February 12, 2021 at the age of 91. She was surrounded by her children who adored her.
June was born in Vancouver, B.C., moving to Comox at the age of seven. In her youth she enjoyed outdoor activities including skiing Forbidden Plateau, hiking and camping in Strathcona Provincial Park. She could also be found horseback riding around town with friends or swimming at the beaches and rivers.
After graduation she worked at B.C. Tel in Vancouver as a switchboard operator and later as a proofreader at the Argus newspaper in Courtenay. She married the love of her life, Bruce Mowatt in July of 1952. They raised four children together in Campbell River and then Comox.
June had a great love of nature, was an enthusiastic gardener and an avid reader. She was well known for her sharp wit, keen sense of humor and warm, yet feisty personality. June had a great love of engaging conversation and storytelling, a deep interest in and knowledge of both her family and the history of the Comox Valley.
She enjoyed listening to others' stories, sometimes asking "what's the latest news of fresh disasters?" with a smile and a glint in her eye. She had a wonderful way of making those around her feel valued and cared for, including all our friends who'd arrive after school for fresh baked treats.
June is predeceased by her husband Bruce Mowatt (1984), her Mom and Dad, Gertrude and Arnie. She is survived by her son Paul, son Dale (Lisa), daughter Carol (Dave), son Glenn (Kim), grandchildren, Kristie, Brittany, Skyler, Jens, Megan and Liam and great grandchild Aubrey.
She treasured her family as well as her group of lifelong friends from her school days, organizing many fantastic school reunions over the years. Mom's hope was that our family's cousins stay closely connected throughout their lives.
We'll always feel Mom's love because she'll be with us forever in our hearts, never forgotten.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Lauren Baerg for her compassionate care of our Mom.
A private family gathering for a celebration of life will take place this summer.
