DANELIUK, Kathleen Winnifred (nee Robertson)

October 22, 1941 to April 10, 2010

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Mother, Kathleen Winnifred Daneliuk. She will be dearly remembered by her children Cindy (Steve), Shelley (Mike), Douglas, her grandkids, Taylor, Emily, Keenan, Justin, Megan, Trevor, and her dog, Poochie.

Raised on a farm on Westham Island, in Ladner, BC, Kathy learned the value of hard work and sacrifice. She was a strong, independent woman who always put the needs of others before herself, and made sure her children never went without. Kathy moved to Port Alberni, right after university, and spent over 30 years teaching elementary school, and special education. Known to her students as "Mrs. D", she had a way of welcoming students to her classroom, even though they were not part of her program. She felt a strong need to advocate for the underdog and made a point of helping out as many kids as she could.

Her love of books, antiques and collectibles sparked a journey to garage sales, that spanned many years. The countless "treasures" were purchased for her retirement project, the Highway House. Kathy truly enjoyed her visits by all who stopped by her store, especially her regular book friends. Here she made many new friends, and enjoyed talking endlessly about all the things she loved. Unfortunately, her health did not allow her to pursue this career as long as she would have liked to. Kathy spent her last 3 years in the Comox Valley to be closer to family, and where she could receive the dialysis treatments she needed.

She will be sadly missed by all of her friends and family.

There will be no service by request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Kidney Foundation of BC. Special thanks to nurses and friends at the Cumberland Dialysis Unit, for making Mom's last few years more enjoyable.
