In Loving Memory ~
Our beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather has been reunited with the Lord and our mom, Jeanne, the love of his life for 67 years, who predeceased him 7 months ago. Their devotion to each other was an inspiration to us all.
Born in Kentville, Nova Scotia his childhood was spent in the area and other small towns nearby until he joined the RCAF. He met mom on a blind date when posted in Newfoundland and they married in 1954. His career took the family on adventures to England, France and Ontario before settling in Comox in 1971. After retiring from the military, he worked with people with disabilities, including a wood working industry and then ran group homes in the Comox Valley until he retired for the last time.
Dad had what many refer to as a servant's heart. He was an active member of his church community, was generous with his time and his treasure, he was gentle and always classy. His grandkids have great memories of his dry wit, pranking nature (taking his oldest grand kids for walks in the woods and singing the Teddy Bear's Picnic song), berry picking and jam making. He built amazing wooden toys and trucks/trikes and home-made fishing poles for camping trips. He always made sure visiting grandkids had a bike their size to use on summer visits. He was very intelligent, an avid reader and life long learner. He was also very creative and artistic, and loved music, especially Jazz. He participated in church choirs and seasonal productions and the Just In Time vocal group until his health made it too difficult. He and mom enjoyed travel and camping together, including a cross country camping trip in 1996 where they were able to visit family and friends from one side of Canada to the other. He cycled and cross country skied well into his 70's and even did a tent camping trip on his own to Nova Scotia in 2010, joined by son Norm for a portion of it. In his last years he continued to win often at Yahtzee which followed our 3X weekly family dinners in our COVID bubble.
Dad's "tribe" includes children Susan, Karen, Norm and Lynne, grand children Joel, Kyle, Sean, Katie, Jessica and Alexa and great grandchildren Caleb, Leah, Parker, Claire, Emily, and James.
Our family wishes to express our gratitude to Dr. Colin Bullock who provided attentive care to Dad over many years, and the staff of 3C at the Comox Valley Hospital who provided kindness and comfort to him in his final days.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Watoto Canada in his memory, Dad was a long time supporter.
