L.A. Patricia (Pat)
(nee: Laird, Youngs)
Mar 17, 1921 – Jan 4, 2007
Passed away suddenly and peacefully at Glacier View Lodge on January 4, 2007 at age 85.
Born in Reston, Manitoba on St. Patrick’s Day 1921, she leaves behind daughter Maurette (Barry) Bremer, grandson Steve (Stephanie) Bremer, granddaughter Karyn (fiancé Greg Doerksen) Bremer, great-grandson John Arsenault and twin grandbabies Andrew and Kyla Bremer. Also, sister Phyllis Thompson, niece Sharyn Flanagan, niece Marlene Flanagan and nephew Mike (Laura) Thompson; predeceased by son Norman V. Laird.
Mom was always an independent spirit who single handedly and against all odds raised two children on her own. She worked first as a clerk at Woodwards (Vancouver), later as a well respected bookkeeper/accountant in the logging industry for many years. The last few working years she spent as an independent accountant.
Pat’s hobbies left behind a priceless collection of exquisite petit point and other stitchery. She was an avid reader, loved playing mahjong, completing complex puzzles and knitting.
Many thanks to Lynne Wozney and all the staff at Glacier View who made mom’s short stay there so comforting. Sincere gratitude goes to Casa Loma and all the home care workers whose never ending care, compassion and humour were always evident and so much appreciated. A special thank you to Dr. Silcox, Trish, Marla and all the staff at Courtenay Medical Clinic for your patience, care and support through many years. Thank you also to special friends Louise and John Gunter.
Mom was described in many ways strong-willed, fiercely independent, and crotchety, but with a wicked sense of humour and she always “did it her way!”
No formal service by request. Private family arrangements entrusted to COMOX VALLEY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIUM, 1101 RYAN ROAD.
REST IN PEACE AND GOD BLESS
For those wishing, donations in her memory to Glacier View Lodge, 2450 Back Road, Courtenay, B.C. V9N 9G8 would be appreciated.
