BEKS - Lambertus Martinus "Bert" of Courtenay, passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital on Saturday, August 30th, 2008. Predeceased by his parents, one brother and two sisters; he is survived and will be lovingly missed by his wife of 53 years, Antonetta Johanna Beks, "Net"; sons Martin (Sharon) Beks of Beaverlodge, Alberta, Peter (Lisa) Beks and Hank (Tina) Beks, both of Courtenay; daughters Anna Maria Beks and Nell (Mark) Bell, both of Courtenay; 21 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 1 sister and 42 nieces and nephews. Bert immigrated from Holland in 1955 and dairy farmed his entire life. He was a devoted family man and devoted member of the Roman Catholic Church. Bert earned his 4th Degree with the Knights of Columbus, was a Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem and served many years with the Farmer's Institute of the Comox Valley. Prayers took place on Wednesday, September 3rd from Comox Valley Funeral Home, Cremation and Reception Centre, 1101 Ryan Road, followed by Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, September 4th at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church with Father Paul Murphy, Celebrant. Interment took place at Courtenay Civic Cemetery. Bert's family wishes to thank Dr. Gino Tancon and the nurses and staff at St. Joseph's Hospital for their excellent care and kindness.
